Once again, Seanan McGuire has delivered a wonderfully twisted plot and grand adventure, pitting heroine October “Toby” Daye against her environment, her superiors, and even her companions. This series remains one of my favorites not only for the consistently good writing and genuinely likable characters but for McGuire’s ability to invent unique situations that give Toby both the freedom and pressure necessary to portray her character to the fullest.
My only qualm, small though it is, is that the characters all seem to have the same attitude. Toby, Quentin, Tybalt, the Luidaeg, they use different words, yet the overall feeling of their speech is the same. Even newly introduced characters seem to fall into stride with Toby’s snarky attitude almost immediately.
