Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Illustrated edition)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just finished reading this illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to my 5-year-old daughter. It was a delight to watch her face light up as she followed along with the story through the wonderful pictures. The book itself is well-bound, with an attached ribbon bookmark. While not every page has a fully realized illustration, each one has at least some added character, such as coffee stains or billowing smoke.
This is the first time I’ve reread the book since the movies came out, and it was interesting to pick out all the large and small differences. The story itself was as fun as ever. Rowling’s wizarding world is colorful and immersive, and my daughter has added it to her repertoire of favorite things to pretend.
We’ve already bought the illustrated version of the second book and can’t wait to get started.
